Studying and working in a foreign country is never easy. It requires determination, resilience, and the willingness to adapt to a completely different culture and work environment. For two South Africans, however, that challenge became an opportunity to prove what is possible. This article represents the true essence of doing whatever it takes to achieve a better life abroad.

After completing one year of their Ausbildung at Europa-Park in southern Germany, Alex Khumalo (20) and Bliss Maseko (29) successfully finished at the top of their class at the Berufsschule in Kehl.
Both students were also awarded a Belobigung, an official commendation presented to learners who demonstrate exceptional academic performance and exemplary commitment throughout the school year. In Germany, a Belobigung is a formal recognition of excellence and serves as an acknowledgement that a student has consistently performed above expectations.

For Alex and Bliss, the achievement represents much more than good grades. It is the result of balancing practical training in one of Germany’s busiest tourism and hospitality environments while simultaneously meeting the academic demands of vocational school. Throughout the year, they developed professional culinary skills, improved their German language abilities, and learned to thrive in an international workplace.
Their success also sends an important message to young South Africans considering an Ausbildung in Germany: with the right mindset, discipline, and commitment, it is possible to excel.
At X-Factored Youth, we believe that opportunities abroad are not simply about finding employment—they are about developing character, building internationally recognised skills, and creating pathways to long-term careers. Stories like Alex’s and Bliss’s demonstrate that South African youth can compete and succeed on a global stage.
Receiving a Belobigung is not the finish line but another milestone in a much bigger journey. It reflects countless hours of hard work, perseverance through language barriers, and the courage to step outside of one’s comfort zone.
Congratulations to Alex Khumalo and Bliss Maseko on this outstanding achievement. We hope their story inspires many more young South Africans to pursue international opportunities and to strive for excellence wherever they go.
The future belongs to those who are willing to prepare for it—and these two young South Africans have shown exactly what that looks like.
